Fernyford Barn – Fernyford Farm

Big Fernyford Farm is located in open countryside on Reapsmoor, between Longnor and Warslow and we think it’s a great place to get a feel of what life is like on a working farm. We run Swaledale sheep and Belted Galloway cattle. Farming never stops, so there’s always something to see, and in Neil we have a resident champion sheep shearer for you to get to know aspects of farming life that most people never see!

We have converted one of the traditional farm buildings (the old cart-shed) into a fully-equipped self-catering accommodation. Fernyford Barn is a delightful property with stone floor downstairs and solid oak flooring on the first floor, exposed oak and stone lintels giving warmth and character. There is under-floor heating downstairs and in the bathroom. Recently gaining Four Stars and a Gold Award from Quality in Tourism, it has an open plan Living room with fire place, fully-equipped kitchen, double bedroom with 5ft bed and second bedroom with two single beds. The property has its own patio area to sit out and enjoy the peaceful location.

Sleeps 4 (+1) in 2 bedrooms

Fernyford Barn – Ferneyford Farm is ideal for couples and families. A warm welcome for babies, children and… horses – stabling available. including Chatsworth House and Alton Towers. It offers a perfect balance between being able to completely unwind, or, if you prefer, getting involved with the day to day life of a working farm! We will be happy to offer our guests the opportunity to experience seeing the livestock on the farm, the different farming operations throughout the year and to taste quality meat produced on the holding. Fernyford Farm is a traditional farm, and we love living here. This is a great part of the world, and we would really enjoy being able to share it with our guests. So, we look forward to welcoming you here on the farm! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

Farming Monthly visited Big Fernyford Farm holiday cottage over the New Year and we have to say that it was a fantastic experience. The accommodation, which was the old cart shed has been converted to the very highest standards and boasts cosy underfloor heating, leather sofas and even a 50″ TV with Freesat and DVD player. The cottage also boasts a WIFI connection! Even though the location seems quite remote, a short drive gets you to a great local pub (The Greyhound) and the village of Hartington (which has a selection of small shops).
However, should you not really want to go anywhere, the farm produce their own meat (including sausages and bacon!) so you won’t go hungry!
The farm itself is very well maintained and sits in wonderful countryside. Neil is an award winning sheep shearer and breeder of champion Swaledale sheep and is eager to ‘show you the ropes’ should you wish to learn more.
In fact, our hosts (and the owners) Neil and Dorota made us so welcome that we didn’t want to leave! We will definitely go back to Fernyford and can easily give it our highest recommendation!
