Farming Monthly visited Big Fernyford Farm holiday cottage over the New Year and we have to say that it was a fantastic experience. The accommodation, which was the old cart shed has been converted to the very highest standards and boasts cosy underfloor heating, leather sofas and even a 50″ TV with Freesat and DVD player. The cottage also boasts a WIFI connection! Even though the location seems quite remote, a short drive gets you to a great local pub (The Greyhound) and the village of Hartington (which has a selection of small shops).
However, should you not really want to go anywhere, the farm produce their own meat (including sausages and bacon!) so you won’t go hungry!
The farm itself is very well maintained and sits in wonderful countryside. Neil is an award winning sheep shearer and breeder of champion Swaledale sheep and is eager to ‘show you the ropes’ should you wish to learn more.
In fact, our hosts (and the owners) Neil and Dorota made us so welcome that we didn’t want to leave! We will definitely go back to Fernyford and can easily give it our highest recommendation!
