More than 220 people have signed up to attend a free online seminar on Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Reform and greening next week.

The event is being held jointly by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) and Farming Advice Service (FAS) for farming advisors who were unable to attend one of the recent CAP Reform seminars hosted around the country.

Hundreds of farm advisors have attended the sessions in recent weeks, held from Cornwall to Newcastle. Such was their popularity, the RPA and FAS agreed to host a further event online, happening on Monday 21 July from 9.30-10.45am.

People are encouraged to visit to register for the event. For more information please call the FAS helpline on 0345 345 1302.

The session will cover the latest details on greening rules, CAP impacts for farm businesses, and the timing of further updates, and also include a designated Q&A slot for questions on the new legislation.

Simon Lunniss, who will represent the RPA at the seminar, said: “It is a great opportunity for farming advisers to find out more information about the new CAP greening requirements, details of when further information will be released and ask questions about the new policy.

“The recent seminars were very well received by those that attended, who will now feed the information to their clients. We believe that this is another great way in getting as much information as possible out to farmers.

“We are working together across Defra with the Farming Advice Service to help farmers, land managers and rural businesses understand how the new CAP will affect them and we are ensuring that, as decisions are made, the information is made available to the industry as quickly as possible.”

Rodney Coward, farm advisory services manager of North West Auctions attended the recent event in Knutsford, Cheshire. He said:

“A friend and fellow professional attended an earlier seminar in Cornwall and recommended I attend this one … I was not disappointed, it was one of the most useful meetings for years. Thanks to the RPA and the Farming Advice Service for providing this event, and at last for communicating with the industry.”

Defra – together with the RPA, Natural England and the Forestry Commission – has also recently issued a new leaflet. When read with the latest policy announcements, it will give farmers the most up-to-date information available on new ‘greening’ rules, which are part of the CAP changes.
