Brazil’s agribusiness opens an office in Brussels

The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) will inaugurate Espaço Agro Brasil in the heart of the EU with the aim of consolidating and expanding the country's market share of agricultural products in the European market.

Consolidating and growing the market share of Brazil’s agricultural products in the European market and promoting more partnerships between Brazil and the EU in the agricultural sector – these are just two of the objectives the CNA will have in mind when inaugurating its representative office in Brussels, Belgium.

The CNA already has an office in Beijing, China, which is the largest global market for Brazil’s agricultural products. However, a representative centre in the European Union, which comprises Brazil’s main block in terms of foreign agricultural trade, has, so far, been missing.

Over the past decade, Brazil’s agricultural exports to the European Union represent 23% of the total. Between May, 2012, and April, 2013, sales reached almost US$ 22 billion (or approximately 21.9% of all of the country’s exports), with the following products worthy of particular mention: soy, forest products, coffee, meat and orange juice.

CNA President Senator Kátia Abreu, who is leading the organization delegation at the EU, said: “Brazil’s products already contribute to bringing down the price of food for Europeans, and if the block were to open up further, greater savings could be made”.

The main goal of the CNA’s representative offices and social networks outside Brazil is to be up to date with international policies and negotiations of interest to the country’s agribusiness, in order to be able to guide and train its rural producers and agricultural industry for international business.

Another CNA objective is to provide reliable, high quality information regarding aspects such as the safety of Brazilian foods and the country’s adherence to international sanitary protocols, its producers’ commitment to environmental sustainability and the technological advances of its agriculture.
