Scan Foods’ Olive Hill Farm Sausages win ultimate accolade

Scan Foods’ innovative new Olive Hill Farm Pork and Chorizo Sausages, made with a revolutionary process which replaces saturated fat with extra virgin olive oil, has won the industry’s highest accolade – BPEX’s Food Service Pork Sausage of the Year Competition 2012.

There are six different varieties of sausages in the Olive Hill Farm Pork Sausage range, which all scooped awards at the BPEX event held on Friday (26 October) including seven gold, four silver and one bronze awards.

They have all been made using this globally patented new process which not only delivers a great taste by infusing them with the goodness of extra virgin olive oil, but also reduces the saturated fat levels to around 30 per cent lower than other standard premium pork sausages. Extra virgin olive oil is already recognised as a key contributor to reduced fat in many other product categories in the UK.

They are a high quality product containing 80 per cent meat and 5 per cent olive oil and are expected to retail at £2.99 for a 350g pack of six. They are being produced by FA Gill at Wolverhampton from lean British pork shoulder meat.

Scan Foods, which is best known in this country for its ethically produced meat balls, is in advanced discussions with a number of major retailers regarding listings and the product is likely to be available to buy from January. A range of deli meats with olive oil is also in the pipeline.
