The World Cheese Awards return to British soil

The World Cheese Awards (WCA) are making a welcome return to Britain, taking place on the 24 November 2010 at the BBC Good Food Show Winter at the NEC. Following Dublin in 2008 and Gran Canaria in 2009, the biggest cheese competition in the world takes place with 160 international experts judging 3000 cheeses entered by cheese producers in 34 different countries. For the first time on British soil, visitors to the BBC Good Food Show can watch the international jury reach its verdict.
All cheeses will be displayed in an area of 1000sqm for the duration of the 5 day show, offering visitors an unprecedented opportunity to see and taste a wider selection of international cheeses than they will have ever seen before.
Judging
150 experts from around the world work in teams of four, identifying medal-winning cheeses through the morning. The judges along with the leading lights of the cheese world adjourn for lunch, after which the international jury of 12 will sit in front of a live audience and the TV cameras as well as visitors to the BBC Good Food Show to taste the top 40 cheeses in the competition to finally decide the 2010 World Champion cheese.
Laura Biggs managing director of BBC Haymarket says We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the World Cheese Awards 2010. Its a fantastic opportunity to showcase to our visitors the huge range of fantastic cheeses from around the world, and its the perfect time to be getting inspiration for those Christmas cheeseboards.
