Farming charity R.A.B.I. (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) is to benefit from fundraising during this year’s Great British Beef Week.
The event takes place between April 21 and 28 and aims to promote the quality and versatility of British beef, and the importance of the ‘Red Tractor’ assurance scheme.
Milly Wastie, R.A.B.I. regional manager and chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs, is the national champion of this year’s Great British Beef Week.
The scheme, with its easily recognisable logo, guarantees that products are produced to high quality standards by assured UK farmers, growers and producers. In addition, each step of the supply chain is independently inspected for things like safety, hygiene and animal welfare.
Great British Beef Week was founded two years ago by Minette Batters and Jilly Greed and their regional network of female beef farmers ‘Ladies in Beef’.
Members of the public are invited to join in the promotion by ‘hosting a roast’, either for family and friends, colleagues or community groups, and asking guests to make a donation to help R.A.B.I.’s work with farming families in financial difficulty.
Restaurant owners, clubs, schools and workplaces can also take part by putting Red Tractor assured British beef on the menu during the week and inviting diners to make a donation.
Minette said: “Host a Roast events can take any format. All we ask is that you serve Red Tractor quality assured British beef and encourage guests to make a donation to R.A.B.I..
“We look forward to our Ladies in Beef champions working with R.A.B.I.’s regional teams to make the most out of Great British Beef Week 2013. By promoting British Red Tractor-assured beef we hope we can also provide fundraising opportunities for R.A.B.I., who do such excellent work.
“From farm to fork, Ladies in Beef are proud that British beef is world renowned. We want shoppers to look on packs for the Red Tractor logo, and know that it stands for a meaningful quality assurance from British farms.”
R.A.B.I.’s East Midlands regional manager Milly Wastie, who is also this year’s National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs chairman, is the national face of the promotion.
Milly said: “This is a great initiative and as the partner of a beef farmer I enjoy cooking beef and am passionate about promoting it and British agriculture. It’s a great honour for R.A.B.I. to be the charity to benefit from fundraising during Great British Beef Week. I hope as many people as possible will support us.”
