On Friday, 11th November 2011, a SAME Frutteto3 S 90.3 Hi-Steer rolled off the production line in Treviglio to become the millionth tractor to be produced since 1927. This was the year when Francesco Cassani and his brother Eugenio introduced the Cassani tractor one of the first tractors in the world to be powered by a diesel engine.

The introduction marked the birth of an Italian company which, in 2012, will celebrate its 85th anniversary 85 years of continuous growth which has seen expansion of production facilities, brand acquisitions, machines produced and human resources.

Among the many important achievements, the following in particular stand out:

  • 1927 The Cassani Tractor, one of the first tractors in the world with a diesel engine
  • 1942 The first tractor to bear the SAME name was produced
  • 1952 Launch of the SAME DA 25, the world’s first tractor with four wheel drive
  • 1972 Acquisition of the historic marque Lamborghini Tractors
  • 1979 Acquisition of the prestigious Swiss marque Hurlimann
  • 1995 Acquisition of German company Deutz-Fahr

Today, SAME Deutz-Fahr produces and markets agricultural machinery and tractors under the brand names of SAME, Deutz-Fahr, Lamborghini, Hurlimann and Gregoire, the latter being a leading manufacturer of grape harvesters and vineyard machinery which was acquired by the Group in September 2011.

The Group’s production is divided between four plants in Europe (Italy, Germany, France and Croatia), one in India, one in Russia and one in China where a Joint Venture agreement was signed last October with a local manufacturer of tractors and combines. The Group has also entered into a partnership with a local firm in Bandirma, Turkey to produce 50hp and 70hp tractors.

Our vast product range includes tractors from 30hp to 300hp to meet all types of application requirements. Major investment in R&D has led to the development of a leading-edge continuously variable transmission which is currently used in the 110hp to 260hp range and which over the next two years will also be installed in higher horsepower tractors with power ratings up to 440hp. The combine harvester range covers all the core segments of the market with models from 130hp to 400hp.

Due to the investment in DEUTZ AG and to the localisation of SAME engine production in our Indian plant, Same Deutz-Fahr is also a world leader in the sector of industrial diesel engines.
