Collaboration amongst farmers and hauliers
The plight of the Welsh farmers has been well documented in the national press lately; with the bad weather wreaking havoc amongst sheep during the lambing season and the limitations on the amount of forage available.
Andrew Ward a farmers in Lincolnshire has set up a campaign “Forage for Snow Hit Farmers” and Camgrain farmer, Chris Eglington read about this and offered a lorry load of hay but getting it all the way form Norfolk to Wales was proving a challenge. Camgrain’s marketing agency, England Marketing approached Dan Fabb of RF Straw Services in Cambridgeshire to see how they could help. RF Straw Services specialise in hay and straw and have stepped into the breach and are carting Chris’ load from Norfolk to Denbighshre today (6th June)
This is a perfect example of how collaboration in the supply chain can work effectively but, as is so often the case, it’s down to who you know. With the bad weather (the coldest spring since 1979)and volatility in all markets there is even more need to work closely together – this is a case of commercial operators like Camgrain and RF Straw Services thinking outside the box and working for the greater good of the farming industry.
“Camgrain is a wholly farmer owned Co operative and we are pleased to do all we can to support fellow farms battling the recent very difficult weather conditions across the UK.”. Philip Darke MD Camgrain
