‘Badger cull extension vital in fight for TB free England’, says CLA
The CLA today (24 October) applauded the extension of the badger cull in Gloucestershire describing it as a step towards eradicating bTB in England.
The Association said the move is crucial for the protection of the agricultural industry.
CLA Harry Cotterell said: “Natural England’s decision to extend the badger cull, based on expert scientific advice, is necessary if we are to eradicate bTB.
“The disease is devastating to the agricultural industry, affecting thousands of cattle each year and destroying livelihoods.
“The cull has proved to be humane and effective so far, and not only will the extension help reduce the spread of bTB in cattle; it is needed to limit the risk of increasing bTB through the dispersal of badgers.”
