Final year agricultural students at Walford and North Shropshire College recently returned from a three week study programme in New Zealand.

For the past nine years students on the agriculture course have been visiting Taratahi College which is situated on the north side of the island as part of a college exchange programme. This year students have gained first-hand experience of butchery, fencing and all-terrain vehicle driving. There were visits to dairy, beef, and sheep farms and ancillary businesses. Students also met representatives from local/national government offices. The visit to Rotorua gave students experience of national sites of interest which widens their minds to the social and cultural differences.

The aim of this exchange is to introduce students to a different agricultural setting and enable them to develop skills in the New Zealand farming systems which have been developed over many years to farm without subsidies. The exchange is well established now and students always thoroughly enjoy the experience. The students from New Zealand will be joining the College on their exchange at the end of June where they will come and experience all that the UK have to offer.

If this trip appeals to you and you are interested in studying agriculture or any other subject at Walford and North Shropshire College. You can apply online at www.wnsc.ac.uk or call admissions on 01691 688080.
