Open Farm Sunday on Sunday 5th June proved to be a great success for farmers all over the UK who threw open their gates and invited the public in to see behind the scenes of a working farm.
Over 3,000 people took advantage of the sunshine to join the Edwards family at Hanley Farm, Tidenham, near Chepstow, more than three times the number that attended last year’s event.
“It was all part of the National project ‘Open Farm Sunday’ to show people exactly where their food comes from.” Said farmer Lyndon Edwards. “It really was a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old, to discover at first-hand what it’s like to be an organic farmer these days.”
In addition to meeting the animals and even watching the cows being milked in the milking parlour, visitors enjoyed tractor & trailer rides to and from the farm shop, farm and landshare tours, a nature trail, pony rides, face painting, bouncy castles, displays of modern and vintage tractors, horses ploughing, farm machinery and equipment alongside a display of vintage machinery and vehicles from years gone by.
“We were delighted by the huge turnout and the great interest shown by all of our visitors.” Said Lyndon. “Thank you so much to everyone who came along to support us and to our wonderful farm and shop team for all of their efforts in making it such a successful day.”
The Edwards family are already making plans for the next annual Open Farm Sunday on 11th June 2017.
