Cattle system granted patent
A mobile cattle catching and containment system devised by Michael Midgley of J M Midgley Farm Services has just been granted a patent almost five years after the first application.
The new system (UK patent No:GB2469840) comprises a heavy duty mobile feeder unit with a protected central passageway and choice of barrier styles. It has one or two containment pens incorporating gates and emergency exits. It’s designed to make catching and containing cattle quicker, easier and safer.
“It’s great news. The process has been long and tortuous but thanks to the excellent services of patent agents Lovens in Lincoln, the patent office could see the innovations in the design and we received the patent in May,” former cattle farmer Michael commented.
One of the units is used as part of the business’ Lincolnshire-based hire service, which resulted in the first sales locally. However, the new system has attracted national interest with serious enquiries from as far afield as Scotland and Wales.
