Apply pre-em now to use Broadway Sunrise on wheat

dow

Now is the time for growers, who are considering using Dow AgroSciences Broadway Sunrise on their winter wheat, to apply an appropriate pre-emergence treatment.

According to Stuart Jackson, Dow AgroSciences technical expert, Broadway Sunrise like many other early post-emergence treatments, works best when used as part of a programme.

We recommend that growers use Broadway Sunrise as part of a programme that is based on a suitable pre-emergence treatment, says Stuart, We conducted extensive trials in the UK, and the pre-ems that gave the best results were based around flufenacet. Growers should act now with a view to applying Broadway Sunrise post emergence once grass weeds reach one to three true leaves.

Early treatment, when young weeds are actively growing, can deliver real benefits when it comes to controlling grass and broadleaved weeds in winter wheat to protect yields. Autumn 2011 will be the first opportunity for growers to use the Broadway Sunrise (pyroxsulam and pendimethalin), which offers both contact and residual control of the widest range of both broadleaved and grass weeds including ryegrass, sterile or great brome, wild oat or moderate infections of susceptible blackgrass.
