Hereford Bulls make their way across the English Channel!
Three Hereford bulls bred by two well-known Hereford Breeders, both based in Herefordshire, have been purchased by French breeders Jean-Christophe Betis and Regis Bastien.
Gerald Blandford based near Ledbury, sold Bosa 1 Jupiter to Mr Bastien and Bosa 1 Jack Frost to Mr Betis, following their visit to Herefordshire earlier in the year.
The large Bosa herd has been much in evidence recently, following Gerald’s success in winning the prestigious National Herd of the Year 2012. More recently almost the entire herd has been sold to new Hereford Breeder Mrs Jane Parker, Gloucestershire, a friend and neighbour of TV presenter Adam Henson. The viewing and subsequent purchase of the Bosa Herd by Mrs Parker has been featured on BBC Countryfile over the past few weeks.
Both “Jupiter” and “Jack Frost” have tremendous Breedplan performance recording figures and across all traits, with a Terminal Sire Index in the Top 10% for the Breed. Both bulls are out of Bosa cows, with Bosa 1 Jupiter by Alderville 1 Preston and Bosa 1 Jack Frost by Dorepoll 1 Nationwide.
In addition, Border Panther J14, bred by SW Quan & Co, Pontrilas, Herefordshire, was also purchased by Jean-Christophe. Mr Betis certainly has any eye for quality, as with Bosa herd, Border Herefords are also previous recipients of the much sought after National Herd of the Year Trophy, not once, but for a record three times. Twenty two month old “Panther” is out of Border Pansy F32 and by top Hereford sire Border Burlington E23. Again Border Panther J14 has excellent performance figures, especially for growth and carcase traits and is in the Top 1% for the Breed for both Terminal Sire Index and Self-replacing Index.
Bosa 1 Jack Frost and Border Panther J14 both qualify as Superior Carcase Sires, under a Scheme operated by the Hereford Cattle Society to provide financial assistance to purchasers of qualifying sires.
An acknowledgement must go to Paul & Kirsten Westaway and Remi Fourrier, AHDB France, for organising transport and completing export documentation.
