The Global Solar Council has selected Jodie Roussell to be the Council’s new Chief Executive Officer. Roussell will assume the new role on 1 August 2017. The Global Solar Council represents national and regional solar associations, and the leading global corporations operating in solar, across an industry that now employs over 3 million people worldwide.

Jodie Roussell said:

“I am honoured to have been elected as the Global Solar Council’s next CEO. It is a privilege to be part of an organization dedicated to building the global solar industry’s markets, developing innovative skills training and doing its part to enable solar energy to serve as a transformational tool for healthy and sustainable communities.”

Prior to her current role as Head of Public Affairs for Trina Solar in Europe, Africa & Latin America, Roussell was co-founder of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) and the European campaign the Alliance for Affordable Solar Energy (AFASE). She also served as Head of Energy Utilities & Technology at the World Economic Forum, and led Strategy & Corporate Development at JA Solar.

The Solar Trade Association (STA) was a founding trade association of the GSC, which was founded at COP21, where countries agreed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The STA has worked closely with Roussell in the past to overcome industry difficulties presented by the EU-China trade dispute on solar. STA CEO Paul Barwell met with international solar industry associations at a meeting of the GSC at Intersolar last month. International collaboration is ensuring solar associations can better share market intelligence and best practice, including market and policy design, as well as collective lobbying, to positively influence progress on meeting the Paris Agreement.

STA CEO Paul Barwell said:

“I am delighted that Jodie has been chosen to be GSC’s new CEO. We were blown away by her professionalism and commitment when we worked with her and can think of no better global representative for this vital industry.

Through my own role as a member of the GSC Strategy Group I have seen first-hand the benefits that the GSC provides our industry through their strategic work with solar trade associations including the STA.”

Bruce Douglas, Chairman of the Global Solar Council and Chief Operating Officer of SolarPower Europe, said:

“I am excited to work with Roussell to deliver world class member services, including market opening & trade missions, deliver new opportunities for partnerships, and raise the bar for the entire global solar industry.”
