Professional arborist and two time ISA Tree Climbing Champion, Josephine Hedger of Hampshire was presented with two Husqvarna chainsaws – T536Li XP 12″ cordless top handle and a 550 XP G 15″ with a combined RRP value of over £1500.00.

Josephine has been a leading female figure within the world of arboristry since setting up her tree care training and contracting business in 2005 and Husqvarna wanted to recognise and reward her for her commitment and excellence to the industry.

Winning the Tree Climbing Championships in St Louis, USA in 2008 and then going on to win again in Chicago, USA in 2010, Josephine has seen female uptake to the sport steadily grow year on year.

“Females were only allowed to start entering the contests in 2001, which seems so recent considering the championships started in 1974 for men. Since then the female participation has gradually increased, seeing 22 females enter into the 2012 contest,” explained Josephine

Josephine has also seen more and more females come through the doors of her training business and feels that having trusted equipment and clothing helps to ensure women in the industry feel confident in their work.

“Having the right equipment is so important to the business as it means we can ensure the upmost safety of our all staff and clients whilst knowing the job or training will be completed effectively.

“Husqvarna equipment certainly helps us to do this,” continued Josephine. “The weight to power ratio is the best I’ve found on the market, which means fatigue on long jobs isn’t such a concern. I’ve also found the saws to be incredibly durable and long lasting; this means that I feel confident in passing them on to other staff when I get the latest model.”

Martyn Davies, regional ABM for Husqvarna who presented Josephine with her prizes said, “We have watched Josephine’s career develop since 2005 and have been thoroughly impressed with her commitment to professional arboristy and training. Her Tree Climbing Championship wins are simply testament to her passion and dedication to the industry. We feel honoured to have such a professional using our products every day and wanted to say thanks to Josephine for this.”

Martyn presented Josephine with the two Husqvarna saws at SPG Power Machinery Services, Hampshire.

Melvyn Sutherland, Managing Director of SPG (Power Machine Service) Ltd said, “We’re extremely proud to be associated with Josephine Hedger and of being involved in the presentation to her.

“We also offer her our wholehearted congratulations for winning the “Ladies World Tree Climbing Championships” in both 2008 and 2010 and admire her for her dedication and professionalism.”
