| Carlisle Family trump the competition in Newbury & District Agricultural Society’s Best Farmed Farm Championship Rowles Farm at West Ilsley near Newbury in Berkshire, owned by the Lockinge Estates and managed by the Carlisle family, has once again won the Best Farmed Championship in the Newbury and District Agricultural Society Farm Competition. The Farm, managed by Peter and Sandra Carlisle along with Peter’s parents Norman and Anne, has won the Championship for the second year running. Joining in the family affair is Peter’s brother David Carlisle and his wife Jane whose farm - Place Farm Partnership – was runner up in the same category. Championship judge, Mr G Murgatroyd said: “It was extremely difficult to make a final decision as first and second were very closely placed. In the end Rowles Farm was crowned Champion because of the impressive way the farm is maintained, as well as the owner and staff’s great enthusiasm, its extreme tidiness and incredible efficiency.” Rowles Farm, a mixed beef, sheep and arable operation has been tenanted by the Carlisle family since 1969 and Peter hopes it will continue that way. “We have a three generation tenancy here at Rowles Farm, he said. “Father was the first, I am the second and the third is yet to be decided! We are delighted with the farm’s progress and look forward to our family’s future here. I’d like to thank our wonderful staff: Colin Hayes; Paul Willis; David Coles and Stuart Warrick. We wouldn’t have won this award without them.” Porchester Farms on the Highclere Estate came third. Presentations to the winning farms will be made next month at The Royal County of Berkshire Show (18-19 September).
