FPS supports Big Energy Saving Week

Big Energy Saving Week runs from Monday 27 to Friday 31 January,

federation of oil suppliers

The trade association for the oil distribution industry FPS (Federation of Petroleum Suppliers) is supporting Big Energy Saving Week 2014  in a bid to help off-grid householders reduce their energy bills.

The FPS, which represents 80% of all oil distribution companies across the UK, is offering all consumers who use oil heating systems money-saving tips and advice through its website www.oilsave.org.uk

“We believe Big Energy Saving Week is a great opportunity for all energy providers to promote money and energy saving advice to help consumers reduce their energy bills and get the financial help they’re entitled to,” Mark Askew, Chief Executive of FPS, says.

“Run between the Citizens Advice Bureau, Government, Energy Saving Trust, energy providers and other charities and voluntary groups, Big Energy Saving Week is a fantastic opportunity for people to take positive action to reduce their fuel bills – and this is something that very much applies to the one-and-a-half million off-grid householders in the UK too.

“It’s amazing how much individuals can do to cut the cost of their heating systems, including oil-fuelled heating and other systems not connected to mains gas, and FPS really wants to make the most of Big Energy Saving Week to highlight all the different things consumers can do.”

In addition to the general advice on offer as part of this energy-saving campaign, such as to switch energy suppliers, insulate your home, only heat the rooms you use and turn your thermostat down by just one degree to cut up to 10% off your bill, FPS has specific help and advice available for oil heating consumers.

Mark Askew comments: “It’s a good idea to set up monthly payments with your local oil heating distributor in order to manage your energy needs more effectively. This means you should avoid being hit with bigger bills during the winter months and can plan for your energy expenditure more easily.

“Also, buying more heating oil during the summer months can save you money as the demand is less and often the cost is lower as a result. And FPS is currently lobbying the Government, together with consumer bodies, for Winter Fuel Allowance payments to be sent out earlier so consumers can make the most of cheaper oil prices in the months before winter arrives.

“If you think you might be entitled to benefits such as Winter Fuel Allowance and other support then the Citizens Advice Bureau can help you access this help.”

“Make sure you also ring around your local suppliers to find the best deal for you and establish the right payment plan for your needs – OilSave.org.uk has a list of suppliers in the UK and you can search by postcode or town,” Mark Askew adds.

The OilSave.org.uk website was created to help consumers get the most from their oil-fuelled energy and has a range of tips and support for managing energy needs and costs.
