Description
Commodity market volatility and its effect on poultry producers
Poultry producers are invited to join the next meeting of the Severn Valley
Poultry Discussion Group to gain an insight on commodity market volatility. The
meeting takes place on the 29th July in Herefordshire.
The group's objective is to bring together anyone with an interest in egg
production to discuss their livelihoods, share knowledge and information and
hear advice from a range of guest speakers, all experts in various aspects of
successful egg production.
The Group has covered a whole range of subjects - not just those introduced by
the invited speakers, but also organic topics of conversation raised by the
producers themselves. Tom Vesey, BFREPA Chairman has described the meetings as
"a fantastic evening, an opportunity that must be encouraged"
Guest speaker at the July meeting will be Martin Humphrey, Feed Sales Director
of Humphrey Feeds, who said "I will be looking at commodity markets, factors
affecting their volatility and their impact on feed prices. By the time of the
meeting the combines should be ready to roll on the UK wheat harvest and already
it is shaping up to be a very different season from last year"
Anthony Harman, Committee Secretary and Sales Manager at Humphrey Feeds said "I
am very pleased with how the group is progressing. We knew that similar
discussion groups were a success in other areas of the country, and there was a
demand for something similar in the Severn and Wye area. We have been pleasantly
surprised at how successful the meetings have been - we have had 70+ producers
in attendance at each of the meetings so far.
"I think the success of the group is due to the fact that many different
companies are involved, including Humphrey Feeds, Farm-Tech, Hy-line, Potters
Poultry, Summers Poultry and the Parry's. We all work within the poultry
industry, have a passion for egg production and are skilled at obtaining the
best from a flock. Sharing that knowledge and experience is imperative to the
group's success" concludes Anthony.
The next meeting takes place on July 29th at the Pengethley Manor Hotel, Ross-on-
Wye. Tickets to attend the evening are £15, including dinner, and can be booked
by calling 01432 266299.
