Description
Generate income and savings at the Farm Energy Event
The Farm Energy event, to be held on 25th November 2009 at the Newark Showground will help farmers to stop losing money on expensive fuel bills as well as provide advice on how to create new income from on-farm generation.
There has never been a better time for farms to invest in generating or saving energy. The unique Farm Energy Event provides visitors with genuine, practical advice in a full seminar programme alongside exhibitors displaying latest technology and ideas to help farms improve energy efficiency and discover the opportunities available from energy crops and on-farm generation.
Improving efficiency, as well as investing in on-farm renewable energy generation will not only save money, but also possibly attract grant funding. A large part of the new Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) 2007-2013 funding is aimed at this specific area and is particularly appropriate for farm-based schemes.
Moreover, as well as grants to help with the initial investment the Energy Act 2008 also provides a facility for ‘Feed In’ tariffs, for small-scale low carbon electricity generation, up to a maximum of 5MW capacity. These Feed-In tariffs, which will be introduced in April 2010, provide financial support for renewable generators with a 20-year guaranteed per unit support payments.
There is an enormous variety of renewable energy production sources available to farmers including, digesters, biofuels and non-food crops. Visitors will be able to see first-hand the opportunities for diversification into energy crops, the generation of energy on-farm and recycling of valuable resources.
Key areas at the Farm Energy Event will focus on include:
- Energy efficiency and benchmarking
- The most efficient conventional equipment and control systems
- Waste recycling
- Anaerobic digestion and biogas
- Energy supply and management
- Farm business advice and consultancy
- Biomass equipment suppliers
- Biofuels and bio-energy
- Irrigation and water management, including water recycling
- Building design and supply
- Efficiency in refrigeration and ventilation
- Efficient grain drying and cooling systems
- Field equipment use and management
- GPS technology
The planned seminar programme includes:
- Anaerobic Digestion – Lucy Hodsman, land and Agriculture manager at the National Non-Food Crops Centre explains the basics about anaerobic digestion and how it fits with UK farming systems.
- Energy saving tips farmers - Andrew Kneeshaw from the Farm Energy Centre offers advice to farmers about how to improve margins by cutting energy costs with a host of practical tips and advice.
- Invest in harvesting wind – Proven Energy has been supplying small scale wind turbines to farmers for the past 30 years. The company will explain how Feed In tariffs, will make it even more cost effective to generate income from wind power.

Description
With 84 acres set inside a secure fence, the Newark Showground offers a perfect venue for all outside events. A further 60 acres are available for parking of traders, exhibitors and public. The Showground is a flat site with 6 acres of buildings, 258 stables, 3 Horse Rings and a further 10 small animal rings.
The soil is an free-draining sand over gravel, which is servicable when many other local and regional facilities have long closed. The newest pavilion, the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall was completed in April 2005 in time for the 2005 County Show. It has added a further 3000 sq m of covered exhibition space to the facilities already on offer. Along with this since 2002, two toilet blocks have been completely replaced and two others upgraded.
