Description

The Royal County of Berkshire Show Celebrates ‘The Year of the Pig’ in 2010

berkshireShowPoster2010Following the Society’s 100 year celebrations, plans are well underway for the Royal County of Berkshire Show 2010, which takes place over the weekend of 18th and 19th September.

Great British Food and Livestock are once again key elements of the Show and this year the pig takes centre stage with one special Berkshire Pig taking the spotlight. “Truffle”  was Breed Champion at the 2008 Show, and you’ll be able to spot her gracing the covers of Show leaflets and programmes across the County.  In addition to the usual Cattle, Camelids, Poultry and Sheep classes, Pigs will have two new Championship classes this year.

In the Main ring, visitors can enjoy two fantastic headline attractions. The White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team is made up of 30 volunteer Soldiers from the Royal Corps of Signals. The team’s exciting display demonstrates the personal qualities demanded of the modern Royal Signals’ Soldier and is bound to be a hit. We are pleased to welcome The Band and Bugles of the Rifles which is a military Band steeped in history and is the only military regiment who march ‘at the double’ past the Queen, marching an extraordinarily fast 140 paces a minute. The Buglers are operational Soldiers, some of which have just returned from Afghanistan.

As well as the regular showing classes, equestrian enthusiasts will be able to enjoy National jumping classes in the main arena. The BSJA International Stairway Competition returns following last year’s success, enabling visitors to spot the British Team stars of the future!

The fabulous Food Fare, Crafts Tent, Countryside and Vintage Areas all remain, along with the Army and Navy Zones and Cookery Theatre. A plethora of celebrity chefs have signed up to showcase their cooking skills, so make sure you pay them a visit.

New to this year’s Show is the Young Farmer’s Tug of War Finals. Heats run on Sunday and the victorious team will be crowned in the Main Arena.

The now traditional spectacle of the mass balloon ascent will ensure that the Show ends on a high note on both Saturday and Sunday evenings.
